The Signs of Over-Running

One of our weaknesses is that we have to push it beyond our capabilities. In one respect, this is what causes a muscle to grow, but in another sense, it doesn't mean that we recover properly. Running is a practice that can truly take its toll on our joints. And when you get into that “runner’s high,” you may feel the surge of endorphins pushing you through so many ailments. While your body sends out signals when you are training too much, it's worth showing you some of the key signs that you are over-running. 

Struggling to Maintain Proper Form

When your body gets tired from overtraining, it is most obvious in your form. Either you won't pay much attention to it or you are so focused on taking the next step that you forget to breathe properly. Without proper form, you could be more susceptible to injuries like plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. But you can also have more aesthetic injuries to your feet, such as foot calluses and blisters. However, it is possible to find a wide variety of foot callus symptoms and treatments. But these issues would be minimized if you focused on proper form. And proper form is the most important thing. Compromising form is a very common problem with people going for the extra step or rep, but this is where injuries can truly get the better of you.
Weakened Muscles

Running too much takes its toll on your muscles, making them more susceptible to injury. While plantar fasciitis is one of the first signs, you've got to make sure that if you feel any sign of weakness when heading out for your next bout of exercise that you focus on proper form and resting up. Having weaker muscles isn't a sign that you need to push harder. But at the same time, also make sure that you warm up properly before you start, as this will minimize pain.

Physical Illness

It's about finding the right balance. When you do just the right amount, it gives your immune system a boost. But any exercise can tire your immune system, causing it to weaken. Too much exercise can suppress your immune system in the short-term. If you suffer from flu-like symptoms or aching muscles, this can be a physical by-product of training too hard. While exercise in any form is beneficial for us, we have to remember that it is metabolically very expensive. Rather than pushing through when you are feeling unwell, listen to your body, and rest up.

Mood Swings

Something you need to pay attention to if you are running a lot is the balance between fatigue and endorphins. If you are running too much, you can gradually build up fatigue, which overshadows the endorphins and can potentially lead to mood swings. It's very common for runners to experience this because if you overtrain your body, it is not producing the right amount of specific hormones to influence your overall functions. 

It's important to remember that when you are doing too much that you listen to your body and rest up.
