Scrap Senseless Exercise By Waking Up To Smell The Workout

Exercise is and should be a full-body experience. By throwing your full force behind your efforts, you certainly stand to enjoy benefits that will never be possible after half-hearted attempts. Yet, even if you’re going full-throttle with your body, you may be missing out on significant potential benefits.

After all, few of us consider incorporating our senses into our workout efforts. Instead, we fill our ears with bass-heavy music, or mindlessly stare at gym television screens. Then, we wonder why we don’t feel quite as fresh as we were hoping when we’re finished.
The simple fact is that you should aim to incorporate every single sense into your workouts. Only then can you truly feel the refreshing benefits of your every effort? This is so important, in fact, that even those who currently leave hearing aids, etc. at home to head to the gym could benefit from taking time to learn more about hearing aid styles they can keep in while exercising. Don’t believe the effort would be worth your while? Keep reading to find out why you’re wrong.

Senses help towards mindful exercise

Mindfulness and exercise have become increasingly entwined over recent years, with fitness options like yoga showing just how much we can benefit from considering both mind and body in our workouts. Yet, mindful exercise attempts will be impossible to come by if you don’t first consider incorporating every sense. After all, the best yoga benefits come from taking deep breaths and really tuning in to everything that’s going on around us. That means using your hearing, smell, etc. As such, making an effort to tune into as many senses as possible while running, weight lifting, or anything else, can make for equally transformative and mindful practice.

Full immersion means full workouts

Getting fully stuck into your workouts is the best way to make the most of them. Yet, if you’re distracting your senses or altogether zoning out during your efforts, the necessary level of immersion may remain elusive to you. By instead tuning into your senses, you’re sure to become more aware of not only what’s happening around you, but also how your workout is making you feel physical. This could see you really working into that burn, or pushing your workouts to new heights that you might never have considered if you just went into zombie mode.

A sense of belonging

Sometimes, tuning into our senses can also help us to feel more at ease in our surroundings. If you head to the gym and stick your earphones in or simply fail to hear what’s going on, you may feel less at ease, or nervous of those exercising around you. But, the moment you open your ears and eyes to the gym setting as it stands, the less alien it becomes. Just like that, you may find that those scary groups of people could become friends, or simply that there’s nothing to fear while you get your sweat on with that treadmill at last!
