Controlling The Crave: Bringing Your Weakness To Heel

What is the number one thing that holds you back from losing weight and achieving your fitness goals? YOU. We are our own worst enemy. But you’ve probably already heard this before, so what can you do about it? Let's skip the intro and just get into showing you how you can bring your crave monster to heel.

Seek a healthy alternative

Don’t go cold turkey

If you know what you cannot help yourself from ea•ting something that you love will be bad for you, then don’t go cold turkey. This is the absolute worst thing you can do. It's like going through some kind of withdrawal phase. You will feel more anguish, more stressed, and more frustrated by not having any of what you crave. The trick is to buy a little of it and settle for that for a week. If you can’t help but eat chips, then only buy one or two bags, and make them last the entire week. If you love chili cheese fries, just make them once a week instead.

Heel your appetite

It's important to not get too hungry during the day as it will lead to you continually searching for something to fill the void. You can do lots of things to control your appetite, such as…

  • Use something like otc appetite suppressant pills in moderation. These can help you to control your body’s urges and cravings when you know you should be dieting. The body becomes used to the number of calories we feed it so when we are dieting it will take time to adjust. These pills can help in the meantime but should be taken responsibility for.

  • Make sure that you eat routinely. If you eat lunch at 1 pm, always eat it for the rest of your dieting. If you like eating dinner at 6 pm, always eat it at this time.

  • If you like to eat certain things that are deemed snacks, you should limit these or perhaps find better alternatives. Sometimes cravings can affect our appetite. Once we get a little bit of what we love, we want more and more.

Be strong

Cravings are completely normal, you don’t have to be harsh but you do have to be strong. Allow some time to adjust mentally to your new diet or workout regimen. Being strong also means being tolerant of your human nature, but then, also shaping it to become more resilient to your own weaknesses.

Cravings are something we all have to fight. But now that you know what to do, you should be in better shape to go the full 12 rounds and come out on top!

Chocolate! We all love it, some of us can’t live without it. The best chocolate we like is milk chocolate. It's rich, smooth and filled with sugar and butter. But, we can eat an alternative that is healthy in fact. Dark chocolate above 70% is very healthy for our heart and great for our skin. It's usually not going to be filled with sugar and other chemicals because the cocoa is not refined. 80% and over dark chocolate is even better, you should consider eating this instead of milk chocolate.
