Paola Shah Founder of Tuckett's Shares Her Story
Tucketts was founded by Paola Shah, Tucketts provides grip patented socks for barefoot workouts and more! The socks help to support better feedback from the workout surface, stability, balance, and freedom of movement. These are perfect for Pilates, yoga, and barre or even lounging at home! Paola R. Shah is an entrepreneur, travel-lover, and mom, born in Colombia. When she founded Tucketts, she wanted to make sure her brand had an environmental and social mission to promote peace which she has successfully been able to do. Keep reading to learn more about Paola and how she has managed to grow her business while remaining healthy.
NMF: How did you decide to start Tucketts?
Paola Shah (PS): It was a moment in my life of new beginnings. Among them, I was living in a new country and welcoming motherhood. I helped a friend of my husband do market research to open a Pilates studio. It was then that I discovered gripper socks. I have always liked colorful socks and, also, barefoot workouts. I came to understand that many people were dissatisfied with the available socks options; toes came in different shapes, lengths and sizes, not everyone was comfortable or is able to wear socks that encased each toe or covered toes completely. Immediately, the idea for open-toe socks struck me like a flash of light. I just knew I had to create a better and more colorful grip sock with sustainable materials that were better for the environment and the community.
NMF: What sets Tucketts apart from others?
PS: Tucketts are open toe socks, where only the big toe is separated from the others, that help to keep the barefoot sensation and connection with the earth, keeping one grounded and secure, while allowing the toes to be part of the workout. The secure soles allow people to feel confident with the grippers, even when doing the most challenging moves. Tucketts are high-quality socks that inspire happiness, confidence, commitment, and, giving back through our charitable donations for each pair sold.
Every collection Tucketts launches have a meaning as does every single design. For instance, our “Nude For Everyone” collection was about bringing a range of nude shades that included the variety of skin colors of our clients. The upcoming fall collection "Fall into the Dunes", launching soon, brings awareness of the role of the deserts in the balance of our planet. Our past collection “Toe-tally in Bloom” is all about bringing awareness about the importance of bees, and 10% of the proceeds of the sales of the first production of that collection are donated to https://thehoneybeeconservancy.org/.

We are also working with an organization in Colombia called Dunna https://www.dunna.org/home-eng/ that is dedicated to helping men and women victims of violence (all affected by the internal war in Colombia) using yoga, meditation, and movement to reconcile communities. NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?
PS: Fitness became most present in my life once I became a mom and started Tucketts. I came to realize how the body changes over time and that taking care of it is key to well-being. Developing the concept of Tucketts meant trying all kinds of barefoot workouts to test the socks. That was fun, from yoga to pole dancing and I was hooked!
NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?
PS: I love nuts, smoothies and water to stay hydrated!
NMF: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?
PS: I meditate every day, even if it's just five minutes in my office. I have a meditation cousin. I sit daily, sometimes more than once, in particular, before meetings that I know are going to be challenging. It keeps me focused and grounded.
NMF: What is your preferred workout?
PS: Nowadays, I do Pilates and also I love hiking. I try to be as close to nature as possible. It's my inspiration!
NMF: What are your fitness favorites?
PS: Workouts for the mind, body, and soul…
Mind - sending thoughts of love to the ones I haven't connected within the way I would like to.
Body - Good pair of socks with arch support - Tucketts Anklet Style are my faves, even though the most popular is the Allegro style.
Soul - Sleep 7-8 hours. I feel better and my mind and body synchronize throughout the day.
