Fitness Files: Luke Milton

Luke Milton is bringing Australian inspired workouts to everyone with his fitness studio Training Mate. As a former professional Rugby player in Australia now a personal trainer Milton wanted to create a unique workout experience.  Training Mate is located in LA catching the attention of fitness enthusiasts and celebrities! The unique angle is ALL trainers are former Australian professional athletes and the entire fitness routines have an Aussie twist. Training Mate's main point of difference is that it motivates people through positive reinforcement and a sense of community (vs gimmicks and yelling/screaming from instructors).  Continue reading today's Fitness Files to learn more about the benefits of an Aussie workout!

NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?

LM: Fitness has always been a big part of my life. Even before I became a professional athlete I used to always use exercise as a way to stay social and make friends. I still have friends to this day that I met from sport as a 6 and 7 year old. I believe with the emergence of the group fitness industry, now is a perfect time to get involved in fitness and make it a lifestyle.

NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?

LM: I like to keep to a routine so a couple of my go to tips for staying healthy are done everyday. As soon as I wake up I like to squeeze a whole lemon into a glass of water and get my hydration started. I believe in a live diet (i.e. anything that's been alive at some point is a good option!) so if I'm in a hurry either grab a handful of almonds or make a quick smoothie with whey protein, frozen strawberries, coconut water, and a spoonful of almond butter.

NMF: At Nadia Murdock Fit our motto is “Train Your Mind, Change Your Body” so we must ask: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?

LM: What motivates me is seeing success in my clients. I think our approach at Training Mate is unique in that we promote mental and social health just as much as physical health. We see some amazing physical transformations but we also see people smile more, meet new friends and truly transform their life. Seeing this everyday reminds me of the power of fitness in people's lives and my responsibility to keep switching things up and make it fun!

NMF: How do you change your body?  What are your fitness favorites?

LM: I change my body through nutrition planning. I believe everything we eat should have been alive at some stage, whether that is growing from the ground like nutrient dense greens and fruits or swimming around the ocean in the form of lean fresh protein or roaming a field like lean white protein chicken and turkey. By staying away from the processed food, I literally watch my body change in the matter of days.

My go to exercise for getting in shape is the rower. From challenges like seeing how many times I can row 300m in under one minute having only 1 minute recovery between, to going all out on a 1000 m sprint, the rower is an amazing machine for working your entire body and pushing the heart rate through the roof.

Cheers!
