Fitness Files: Julie Driver
Julie Driver is a Pilates instructor in the UK that works with clients of all ages and fitness levels, ranging from sports professionals and performing artists to desk-bound professionals and clients looking to improve their general fitness.
Driver says each client and every session is different depending on the personal needs of the client on a given day. Pilates is effective for everyone from professional athletes to desk bound workers. Her signature workouts are always fun, regardless if dealing with the specific needs of rehabilitation or a “how can I challenge you today” session.
Julie is this week's Fitness Files, continue reading to learn more about Julie and how she has retrained her mind and body during various stages of her life.
NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?
JD: Fitness has always been a part of my life, as a child I was a member of the school Field Hockey and Volleyball teams (girls and mixed teams!). I was also a keen horseback rider, and was happy to cycle 3 miles to the stables every day.
The catalyst to turn my fitness interests into a career was when my father died unexpectedly when I was 27. I chose a career change and have never looked back!
NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?
JD: I'm a big fan of nuts and dried fruit. I like to juice and find that really helps me in the mornings too. (1 lime, 3-4 apples, half a pineapple, half a cucumber juiced and then blended with ice and half an avocado)
NMF: At Nadia Murdock Fit our motto is “Train Your Mind, Change Your Body” so we must ask: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?
JD: I use mindfulness meditation everyday. I also use my commute to read. I alternate a good chunky novel with a motivational non-fiction book. I've just finished Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In", a really inspirational read. My husband also introduced me to Seth Godin's books. "What To Do When It's Your Turn" is a great book to read and then dip into.
NMF: How do you change your body? What are your fitness favorites?
JD: Returning to fitness after a twin pregnancy has been more challenging than I expected. I'm a great believer that weight loss is a question of Mathematics "less calories in....burn more calories up"
So I watch what I eat, exercise portion control, low/no alcohol and LOTS of water!
My fitness favorites: The best tonic for me is playing with my 3 year old twins. In our garden we have a slide, a fireman pole and a trampoline; there's nothing better than time spent climbing trees and playing like a child. ( I also quite like Pilates).
