Whether you are looking to go completely meatless or just cut down on your intake WalletHub Analyst, Jill Gonzalez shares simple ways you can start eliminating meat from your diet and save money at the same time!

NMFIT: What are 3 easy recipes if you are looking to cut meat out of your diet?

"Those looking to cut meat out of their diet should not immediately switch to full-vegetarian recipes. Rather, to make the transition easier, they should start out gradually by slowly incorporating more fruits and vegetables into their diet, while substituting meat with high-protein options, like beans, lentil, nuts, and seeds. Keep things simple by starting with the foods you already eat and finding vegetarian recipes of the dishes you already love."

NMFIT: How can you get the most out of your supermarket experience if you are creating a plant-based diet? What are some must-haves to have in your kitchen?

"Many larger supermarkets sell must-have vegetarian items in bulk. Such items include vegetable sources of protein, like beans, soy, lentils, peas, and peanuts. Grains like rice, quinoa, bulgur and other grains are also important in a vegetarian diet because they too provide protein and many other nutrients."

NMFIT: How much money can someone expect to save by opting to eat less meat?

"A vegetarian diet can save the average consumer around $750 each year, as compared to a meat-eating diet. Still, many find this lifestyle change tough on their wallets. A few tips for going vegetarian without breaking the bank is learning how to cook, avoiding prepackaged foods, focusing on whole non-processed foods, and shopping in the bulk aisle of the grocery store."
