How To Find the Right Diet For You

Alas, there is no magic bullet when it comes to staying fit and healthy. The approach needs to be multi-pronged and equal. You can not expect to be your healthiest self if you’re exercising three times a week, but spending the rest of your time on the couch, eating unhealthy foods. Similarly, you can’t expect to be healthy just because you’re following a diet that someone else swears by.

There’s been a huge rise in what we can call ‘fad diets’ in recent years. Many of these diets promise outstanding results, which often sound far too good to be true -- and alas, that is the case. They are too good to be true. The Keto Diet, Atkins, and Palo are just three examples of fad diets that you’ve probably heard of in recent years. The advocates for this diet typically publish accounts of people that have gained incredible results using these diets (for example people who slimmed down without visiting the gym, just following the diet).

The thing about fad diets is that they usually come with very strict rules, which can lead to problems that previously didn’t exist. Avoiding certain foods can be an issue because it causes stress or shame if small slip-ups happen, while things like restricted eating times can cause depression.

Healthy diets include ones that simply modify -- rather than replace -- existing diets, and which are well-balanced. To learn more about how to find the right diet for you, take a look at the infographic from USC below.
