NMFIT: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?

Simone De La Rue (SD): Yes, I started dancing at the age of three. I have always been active. I train everyday, if I do not I feel lost. When I opened my first BBS studio 7 years ago, fitness became my life and my entire focus.

NMFIT: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?

SD: I drink a lot of water and green tea. Both are cleansing and help detoxify my system. If I am in a hurry, I will have a protein shake. I add spinach and kale into my smoothie when I am feeling depleted in nutrients. I also love rice cakes with avocado and salmon, good healthy fats and protein.

NMFIT: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?

SD: I credit dance for my discipline. So many years of classical ballet training, have taught me to push through the pain and stay focused. There is always room for improvement in fitness and exercise, and that keeps me motivated. I always try and challenge myself and push myself out of my comfort zone.

NMFIT: How do you change your body?  What are your fitness favorites?

SD: It's important to always challenge your mind and body and mix up your workout. Otherwise, you can plateau. I like to do yoga on my days off from Body By Simone.
