NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?

McCullough Shriver (MS): Ever since I could walk, sports has always been a part of my life. However, once I graduated from college and the sports career was over, my appetite remained. It's been a battle ever since! Intense lifting and training were a major part of my life when I was playing sports, but now that that phase is over, my training has been more focused on promoting overall health.

NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?

MS: Smoothies are always a great start to the day, as for snacks (something I always need!), I've found plain vegetables to be awesome! There's nothing better than grabbing a pack at the grocery store and having them around throughout the day.

NMF: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?

MS: I always try to learn something new which keeps the mind young and fresh. I often learn more by reminding myself that it's better to know nothing than to know everything. This keeps me focused on asking questions, listening to others and being the student. As for motivation, it's really about limiting the bad choices. It's very easy to choose a fast food meal, but with it come the consequences.

NMF: How do you change your body?  What are your fitness favorites?

MS: Full body exercises on the bosu ball are my favorites. I like to focus on a certain movement with weight while still maintaining balance. This recruits various muscle groups to fire and intensifies the workout. Working with a lighter weight reduces the risk of injury and the high rep count is great for toning.
