NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?
LW: I spent the first half of my life focused on my career. I was so focused on success that I pretty much ignored my body. Despite achieving a lot of success, including winning an Emmy, I was miserable. I was dragging my body behind me like a piece of heavy luggage. I didn’t want to go on dates. I didn’t want to wear anything but black, baggy clothes. I was hiding and sad, even though I appeared to be thriving. At 38 years old, I decided enough was enough and I hired a bodybuilding coach, entered a physique contest and spent six months completely reshaping my body. I was amazed how much transformation was possible at my age. I quit all my pursuits and dedicated myself to teaching every woman I could find the information I had learned.
NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?
LW: I love to munch. If I had my way, I’d eat nothing but chips all the time. So, my go-to snack is celery sticks dipped in salsa. The fiber in the celery fills me up, the pungent kick of the salsa satisfies my taste buds. And, most people don’t realize what a great anti-inflammatory celery is... so it’s great for anti-aging as well.
NMF: At Nadia Murdock Fit our motto is “Train Your Mind, Change Your Body” so we must ask: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?
LW: It’s all about the mind for me. I firmly believe that inspiration is stronger than willpower when it comes to body goals. If I find myself sabotaging or falling off track, I know it’s time to get related to my “why” again. When I’m related to a very clear “why” around the shape and size of my body, nothing will stop me from getting there.
NMF: How do you change your body? What are your fitness favorites?
LW: I take my meditations and my visualizations SERIOUSLY. My 9-video workout series "Mindful Sculpt” is based in visualizing my body the way I want it to be (as opposed to lamenting what I don’t want it to be). I constantly spend time collaging images that inspire me. I spend time on Pinterest like it’s a job. I keep my subconscious mind completely saturated in inspiration and desire toward what I love. I even have a room in my house with a treadmill that is covered wall-to-wall in images that inspire me and I keep my conscious mind busy with the cardio while my unconscious mind absorbs the manifest destiny that is my full-size vision board. All of these tools make the cheat foods seem uninteresting.
