NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?
GG: Fitness was a major part of my discipline training in martial arts since I started with Aikido when I was 12 years old. At 18 I received my black belt and started teaching martial arts as I kept training myself with different teachers. In Aikido we say that the black belt level is only the real beginning of committed training. Never stop learning or growing, only in the mind of a beginner, possibilities are endless.
NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?
GG: Some of my favorite healthy snacks are fruits, green tea with mint and honey and oatmeal with nuts.
NMF: At Nadia Murdock Fit our motto is “Train Your Mind, Change Your Body” so we must ask: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?
GG: To me, an effective way to train the mind is through "consistency" we become what we repeatedly do or like we say in martial arts, " you do what you train". Meditation and contemplation are doorways for self awareness and inner development, and once you practice them in daily basis, then training the mind becomes a possibility. Otherwise we remind at the mercy of our instincts, surroundings and environment, simply reacting without having a true conscious response. Once the mind becomes a servant through discipline training, then the sleeping master who thought to be the servant all along awakes.
NMF: How do you change your body? What are your fitness favorites?
GG: There is always a reason behind the desire of wanting to change something. In the case of wanting to change your body, for me it has very little to do with the perception of others and more with the feelings of health, vitality and knowing that you are functioning at your best. As intelligent and sensitive human beings, we have to be able to listen to our ‘machines’ (or inner voices) and know what is needed for us to be at our best. Martial Fusion represents a complete training system that provides the individual with tools and ancient techniques that not only will get your body fit, but will also transform the way you process information, allowing you to connect with your inner core and start listening to those things that are the best for you as a whole. The way to change is though self awareness and discipline.
