Fitness Files: Brett Hoebel

I recently had the opportunity to test Brett Hoebel's new 20 Minute Body Program. Not only is it a good workout but it's fun and can all be done when in a time crunch. All the moves in the new program are performed using your own bodyweight making it perfect for working out anytime and anywhere!   After following Brett for sometime now I had to interview him for my Fitness Files series. With years of experience he knows first hand how to teach people to dig deep and train their mind and body!

NMF : Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?

BH : I've always been interested in sports...my mom said I could throw a ball before I could walk or talk. There was a real catalyst for me making fitness not just a part of my life, but "a way of life". I gained 50 lbs as a teenager from food allergies and binging on food to get attention. I hit an emotional low and I turned to fitness to help me. Fitness became my freedom and changed the way I looked, the way I felt and the way I thought about myself. It changed me forever and is why I am a fitness professional and love what I do.

NMF : What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?

BH : As a good snack and especially for sugar cravings, and mine can be pretty intense, I like Quest Bars. My favorite is Peanut Butter & Jelly...probably because that's what I'm craving often!

To help clean eating taste better, I've been using Skinny Chef's Cherry Chipotle all natural superfood sauce as a flavor enhancer. It's low fat, low sugar and low sodium. I add it to egg whites, steamed veggies, chicken etc to make them taste so much better. Eating clean is A LOT EASIER when it tastes good.

As a healthy meal replacement shake, when I'm in a rush or on the go, I bring Shakeology with me. I like the vegan chocolate and add raw cacao nibs and sometimes shaved coconut to when I want to indulge a little.

To help me drink more water and to help fuel me in my workouts, I use Vega Sport Hydrator which tastes great, all natural, zero calories and loaded with helpful electrolytes.

NMF : At Nadia Murdock Fit our motto is “Train Your Mind, Change Your Body” so we must ask: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?

BH : I train in a Brazilian martial art called capoeira. There is the actual physical training, but also 3 instruments you learn, the Brazilian songs, the culture,  and the Portuguese language. It definitely feeds my mind and soul.

NMF : How do you change your body?  What are your fitness favorites?

BH: I love training in martial arts. I've tried different ones since I was a child and currently train in Capoeira and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). It's very gratifying seeing myself improve in these martial arts...it's a little harder seeing myself improve a push up, lunge etc.
