NMFIT: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?

[Blair O’Neal]: Fitness has always been part of my life. I have always been active, even when I was a kid, so I really never knew any different. But I do believe fitness and staying active is a life-style, not a hobby or a part-time interest. I don’t have to be perfectly healthy, just consistent healthy.

NMFIT: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?

[Blair O’Neal]: Almonds, protein bars, hard boiled eggs, electrolyte drinks (i.e. G2)

NMFIT: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?

[Blair O’Neal]: Golf is such a mental game so I take training my mind just as (if not more) serious as training my body. Eating right and exercise help my mind, but the most important key to a fresh mind is sleep. If I don’t get my rest, I’m a mess. Staying motivated is pretty easy in golf. It never really leaves you completely satisfied, at least long-term, so you’re always working to get stronger and healthier. But I do work with a sports psychologist who challenges me to stay mentally sharp.

NMFIT: How do you change your body? What are your fitness favorites?

[Blair O’Neal]: I believe in variety. The reason is twofold – 1) I get bored doing the same exercises/workouts repetitively; and 2) I think my body reacts best when it can’t predict what’s coming next. Incorporating all types of workouts such as yoga, pilates, weight training, and cardio help keep my body on its toes (literally). If we are talking specifics, some of my favorite excises (or classes) are deadlifts, stair stepper machine, and bikram (hot) yoga.
