Fitness Files: Bianca Jade

It's natural working in a certain industry you are bound to run into the same people time and time again.  This is how I met Bianca Jade the founder of Mizzfit.com and Television & Digital Host. I have known of Bianca but we really clicked a few years ago when she hosted an exclusive workout event at David Barton's Gym.   Like myself, Bianca turned her passion for fitness into a long lasting career! Continue reading her Fitness Files interview to learn more about her background and how she trains her mind and body!

NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?

Bianca Jade (BJ): Fitness has always been an anchor in my life. As a child, I played soccer and a few other sports I wasn’t too crazy about. But I loved to run and soccer was a good match for me. I started seriously working out at 15 years old with a trainer. Karen inspired me to tone my body and build “strong girl” muscles. She’s probably the reason I developed a penchant for exercise. I loved being in her gym full of empowered women of all ages. I got my mom and best friend to join me for her group fitness classes. And from there, my fitness monster was born.

I naturally gravitated to exercise because I loved how it made me feel but the truth is that there’s obesity in my family. I believe the fear it would happen to me always lingered in the back of my head, and perhaps made exercise even more relevant in my life. I’ve definitely struggled with a 15-20 pound weight gain in the past and as I get older find that it takes more to stay in shape than it used to.

I believe the turning point in my fitness journey is actually now because I work out for me, now. I don’t work out for the abs, the muscles or the tight tummy. I work out for the mental release…for the balance and clarity it brings to the rest of my life.

NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?

BJ: Right now, I’m loving Muuna cottage cheese snacks (with fruit at the bottom).  They’re super yummy and have great protein. I usually do greek yogurt or almond yogurt every morning but it’s hard not to get bored of that after a while. So cottage cheese is a nice shift.

Also, I recently tried GreenBlender, a juice based smoothie subscription box. I loved it! It’s great for in between meals when you otherwise might go down the unhealthy path of eating something high in fat or salt. Their smoothies are delicious and fun to make.

NMF: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?

BJ: I think I’m one of those people who’s just high energy. Like a puppy you need to tire out. I don’t need motivation to work out. It’s more like I need to work out to expend the energy I have bottled up inside me so I can operate like a normal person…if that makes any sense. My mental training definitely comes from yoga though. Becoming a yogi took a lot of work. I love the focus and introspection it gives me. My biggest lesson has been learning how to let go. I used to be the type of person that held onto things. I’m getting better at that every day and I need my yoga at least once a week.

NMF: How do you change your body?  What are your fitness favorites?

BJ: I change my body by changing up my workouts. It’s a fit-losophy of mine that I’ve been practicing for over 10 years. I believe every day you should be doing a different workout than the day before. You can repeat after a week of varied workouts and start it all over again but the point is to condition your body in new, unexpected ways. When your body is learning new movements, it’s working out harder that it would with a practiced routine. My fitness faves are HIIT, Barre, circuit training, hot power yoga and cardio classes (where the choreography isn’t that complicated because I am the worst cardio dancer that ever lived).
