Fitness Files: Bebe Ding, Founder of CruBox
Next time I am in L.A. I have to make it a point to visit CruBox! Bebe Ding created CruBox to offer a boutique fitness experience in the heart of Los Angeles. Its primary focus is boxing in a group exercise setting, mastering technique, and a full body workout.
Bebe wanted to stand out from her competitors by culminating both fitness and lifestyle. CruBox aims to fill a void in the market of high-end boutique boxing studios by centering itself on product perfection and building brand identity. Clients will learn authentic boxing technicalities that even professional boxers utilize in the ring. So how does Ding stay motivated and focused while running Crubox? Continue reading to learn more, especially some of her wellness faves, kombucha anyone???
NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?
Bebe Ding (BD): I had always been sporty growing up, my parents put my siblings and me through lots of fitness programs. I played tennis mostly, but never competitively. It was during college that I started to get really into fitness because there were so many fun options in Los Angeles! My siblings and I grew up very close and we were taught to share and look out for one another - that had a huge impact on us and is why we are able to open fitness studios together! We strive to create spaces for people to come with no judgment in a non-competitive environment. That being said, it was when we founded the first of our fitness studios, a spin studio in Singapore called CruCycle, that I became an instructor myself. Fitness then not only became my biggest focus and top priority, but it also became my entire way of life!
NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?
(BD): I start my day off with a huge glass of water that waits for me on my bedside table, to replenish whats been lost overnight while I was asleep! I chug until I can’t chug anymore. I drink lots of liquids throughout the day: water, kombucha, bone broth. I’m a huge snacker, so I make sure my purse is well stocked before I leave the house: Mixed nuts, grain-free crackers, carrots, fruit or a smoothie! I love to bake too, so last week I made a healthier rendition of a childhood favorite: the rice krispie treat! I found a recipe that uses only maple syrup, peanut butter, brown rice crisps and sugar-free dark chocolate! I used to be strict about what I was eating, cutting out carbs or sugar completely which only left me craving more. But now I believe in healthy balanced eating - I allow myself “treats” throughout the week and it definitely keeps me satisfied!
NMF: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?
(BD): I’ve always been very active, I can never sit still. I always have to be doing something, and luckily for me, that means I’m always motivated to workout! Now, after becoming a fitness instructor myself, I don’t know life without working out at least once a day! Sometimes three or more! I also love trying different classes so I’m always searching and I’ll go out of my way just for a good sweat! As long as there is great music I’m in!
NMF: How do you change your body? What are your fitness favorites?
(BD): Variety! I find that my body hits a plateau quite quickly, so I make sure I am adding in variation throughout the week. I get my strength training, cardio, and boxing at the same time while taking the classes at CruBox, and I also do a lot of pilates at MyHotPilates or Lagree Fitness, spin at CruCycle or SoulCycle, circuit style classes at Speedplay, Burn60, Training Mate or Studio. I also hike with my dogs, I surf, I paddleboard. Most importantly, however, I allow space for change mentally. I truly believe that you are your biggest obstacle, so if you talk to yourself while you are struggling in a workout, the way a coach would, it is totally possible to break down those walls and attain more! You are your biggest coach - and there is no fancy diet or equipment needed to change your body. It’s all about staying positive, allowing change and enjoying your workout!
